The World Is Not All About Neutral Colors

“The world is not all about neutral colors and neither is fashion photography.” Chiron Duong, 2020

I began my journey into fashion and art photography with a collaborative photo series with fashion students in Vietnam. New, youthful generations help change prejudices about Vietnam and escape concepts of poverty, backwardness, and war. With youthfulness and energy, each generation of fashion students has shared and spread their voices, ambitions, hopes on life topics, and inspiration from cultural integration from other countries. other country. It was during this period that I experimented a lot with fashion photography, from which I learned what makes me most excited about fashion photography.

I realize it’s the brilliance and dreamy that these fashion works of art bring. Perhaps it is not only the brilliant beauty of the colors and materials of the clothes but also the brilliance and flightiness to cope with real life in the city, which is covered in neutral colors. Or think of the optimism and creativity of a child contrasting with the dryness and pessimism of an adult’s thinking in modern society. I think that the world is filled with countless aspects, colors, materials,… proof of that is the unique beauty of the natural world on our planet. All colors have their own value. And my inspiration is to give a voice to all colors.

However, color is not just what I care about, I’m actually interested in the combination of color with materials and sewing techniques, etc. on each fashion piece. Similar to architecture, the beauty of a surface does not come from one element but is the synthesis of many elements that express its soul. A continuous journey with fashion photography and exposure to the colorful world of fashion is also a time for me to listen to myself and understand more about my subconscious world. A subconscious world influenced by Eastern cultures: I’ve explored (these cultures) and learned a lot from my research: The Asian color palettes are not only extremely vivid and uplifting, but they are also liberating, and delightful, and they have so many stories to tell.

Project “Flaming Asia”, and “The Connection”: Stroll through colorful planets with Chiron Duong 2020

FLAMING ASIAN

“I created a connection between folks and poetry in the Asian brilliant art of painting with modern fashion photography in order to make my photos dreamy and flaming. Also, I use different techniques such as digital painting, multiple exposures, underwater photography, slow shutter speed in photography, etc to turn normal lights and colors into attractive ones. This is a story about the flamboyance and mystery of folk, faith, and religion in Asia’s” Chiron Duong.

THE CONNECTION
“I use 2 different deep color tones of Asian calligraphy painting that makes us feel about the metaphor. For example: black, white, grey, and blue… tell a story about human mental connection with the universe. That is one of the philosophies of Asian people. I use multiple exposures and a slow shutter speed in photography to catch the movement of models. Therefore, I can take dreamy photos that show the connection between humans and nature (human- animals; human- universe; human– plants). In other words, the work is also a way to link Eastern spirit and modern Western techniques.” Chiron Duong.

Prix Picto De La Mode 2020 and Chiron Duong

“I want to convey the feelings of the mystery of folklore, faith, and religion in the lives of Asians through colors and photos that resonate with fashion, as well as the interference of Western and Vietnamese culture. I practice many techniques in photography to create emotions in my works rather than seeking a visual impression.”- Chiron Duong
